New Years Eve in London
Jan 2nd, 2009 by Bjørn
Having watched the fireworks display at the London Eye on TV two years in a row, this year we decided to watch in person. We weren’t quite sure what to expect with regards to ease of getting close to the action, the number of people present etc. I did find an excellent and official website which had information such as when to get there and a PDF map showing viewing areas. We didn’t get into London quite as early as we should have, but we got close enough for it to be an excellent experience. I got some ok pictures (need to get a better camera) and some videos. The videos are cool; on them you can hear the roar from everyone watching the fireworks, something I couldn’t even remember except for right when it started after the chimes from Big Ben.
The website said that one should aim for getting to the viewing areas by 22:00. By 23:30 we were at Lambeth Bridge and decided not to try to get closer. Some distance before Lambeth Bridge we were passing all the cars that were trying to get closer, so if you want to see the fireworks in London new years eve the moral definitely is to get there by 22:00 and don’t even try to get into London by car.
